Red wine

Zweigelt Reserve

Dark ruby red in the glass. The nose comes dark and spicy. It is reminiscent of ripe sour cherries. Elegant on the palate with a nice aftertaste. The vintage 2021 is reflected in the glass: super maturity, good acidity!

Vinifikation

Already in summer, the yield is reduced and grapes are cut in half to achieve a higher concentration. For the reserve, grapes from the old vines are selected and these are allowed to remain on the vine a little longer. The time of harvest is crucial. The grapes should be crisp, undamaged berries with lots of flavor.

Destemmed, but not crushed, the berries enter the mash tanks for fermentation. During fermentation, gentle pumpover is done to moisten but not over-extract the mash cake. After pressing, the Zweigelt is aged for about a year in large, used wooden barrels.

Vintage 2021

The season started with a very dry spring, that was only interrupted by a cool and wet May. Throughout the summer we experienced some hail on the single vineyards Steinberg and Kittmannsberg, however, we were fortunately spared from bigger damages. Ripeness really accelerated on the back of a sunny and relatively warm late summer. The vintage shows wines with good acidity, yet good ripeness, and therefore we expect a high longevity.
